This piece depicts the movement and evolution of an ecosystem in flux. Symbolism of sustainability is achieved through layering inorganic materials onto the canvas, adding vaguely topographical imagery, but also representing the imperfect ways I accomplish landfill diversion.
I start by layering special tokens from daily life onto the canvas as a way of capturing the energy from that exact moment. Sometimes the studio scraps remain visible, and sometimes it’s covered with paint, ensuring the energy is still captured, but the experience remains personally held. I always want my work to be intriguing from a distance and reveal substance up close.
48x60” Acrylic, grease pencil, and studio scraps on canvas.
