Artist Statement

Genuine connection always leaves me feeling buzzy and hopeful. I use abstract painting and fiber art as active meditations to remind myself and viewers that slowing to deepen connection is never time wasted. The composition formed with paint acts as small talk, drawing you in and pushing the conversation deeper as you explore the other materials not discernible at a distance. Roughly drawn symbols of personal mantras and physical scraps from my life are deposited on the canvas as placeholders of the connection I aim to cultivate. You feel it when your gynecologist makes a joke to ease the tension, and serendipitous encounters with someone that already feels familiar. Small, but essential moments that offer necessary context to highlight our shared part in something larger.

Bio

Originally from Kansas City, I grew up in a loud and passionate family that taught me self-expression as a basic instinct and necessity to get a word in at the dinner table. Fiery, honest and emotional since the womb, I’ve never known another way of being. I've been creating professionally for 5+ years from my home studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma where I live with my husband, Jeremy, our daughter, Layla, and two rescue cats, Baker and Pablo. My work has been commissioned by corporate and private individuals internationally, as well as featured in print and digital mediums.

I’m currently represented by Prairiebrooke Arts in Kansas City.
